Antenatal Care

Antenatal care begins from the early stages of pregnancy and continues through each trimester, with consultations planned according to how your pregnancy is progressing. Regular visits help keep track of your health and your baby’s development, while also ensuring that important tests and scans are done at the appropriate time. Your blood pressure, weight, baby's growth and heartbeat may be checked during visits, along with relevant blood and urine investigations. Common concerns such as nausea, vomiting, acidity, swelling, back pain, sleep changes or changes in fetal movements can also be addressed.

What to Expect During Your Consultation?

Good nutrition during pregnancy supports your health as well as your baby's growth and development. A balanced pregnancy diet with adequate protein, fruits, vegetables, whole grains and hydration can support your nutritional needs. Guidance can also cover important nutrients, foods and beverages that may need to be limited or avoided and dietary changes that may help with common concerns such as nausea, vomiting and acidity.

For many women, appropriate physical activity can be part of a healthy pregnancy. Pregnancy-appropriate exercises, walking and pelvic floor exercises can be incorporated based on individual needs. The type and intensity of exercise should be based on your stage of pregnancy, overall health and any pregnancy-related concerns. Your activity may also need to be modified as pregnancy progresses, while certain activities involving a higher risk of falls, injury or excessive strain may need to be avoided.

Different scans and screening tests may be recommended at different stages of pregnancy to monitor your baby's growth and development and assess your health. Antenatal monitoring may include early pregnancy scans, first-trimester screening, anomaly scans, growth scans, blood and urine investigations, as well as additional screening when clinically indicated.
